Whats the difference between a variable and a control in science?

i just need what each one means and nothing too detailed. i wont completly copy your answer but ill take something out of it. its for science homework Whats the difference between a variable and a control in science?
{Im answering this as a psychology student }

In an experiment the ';control'; is the group of people or object this is used to measure the effect of the variable. The ';control'; is the thing that does not change and is not the thing in question.

In an experiment the ';variable'; is the thing which is changed and manipulated by the experimenter. It is the effect of something,

Example: You want to test a drug. you get a group of 40 people. 20 people are given the pill, 20 people are not given the pill but a sugar pill. the people who have the pill is the ';variable'; and the people who dont have the pill is the ';control';.

Whats the difference between a variable and a control in science?
if its in an experiment, there's

variable is what your trying to measure, differences between the control and the variable. Something you add to the experiment to get a measurement

control is a group that isn't affected by the variable

like if u we're seeing how chocolate affect memory, a variable would be chocolate and the control would be a group that doesn't get chocolate.

Hopefully that helps
We just recently learned about this I'll see if I can remember if not I'll look on Wikipedia..Control means a factor in chemistry which remains same and doesn't change while variable is the other thing which can vary according to situation.
variable = something that changes or varies in the experiment.

control = something that remains the same or constant in the experiment.
the variable is something that changes, such as adding plant food to a plant but a control never changes ( a normal plant without plant food).
