What is independent, dependent, and control variable?

I am doing a experiment on how the affect on soil has on pH in water. I need to know the independent, dependent and control variable to help me.What is independent, dependent, and control variable?
Independent --%26gt; the thing you're testing. (presence of soil in water)

dependent --%26gt; affect of Ind. V. (affects soil has on ph in water)

controlled --%26gt; (a water container without soil that you test ph for to compare the results of your Ind. V to.)What is independent, dependent, and control variable?
The independent variable is something which is manipulated by the researcher.

The dependent variable is the outcome of the experiment.

Control variables are things which the researcher attempts to hold constant so that they have NO impact on the experiment, or their influence is cancelled out. These would include things like demographics or background information.
Independent: Whatever does not rely on the results.

Dependent: Whatever relies on results

Control Variable: Whatever is used to change
